EA bans porn from Spore
Spore is the latest, and suposedly ultimate, addition to Maxis‘ range of sim-everything games. I have some fond memories of games like Simcity and I bet many of our female readers spend many hours and much cash their social simulator “the Sims”.
Spore is an attempt to create an ultimate “sim-life” type of game that simulates life from the earliest stages of evolution to the far away future of a space faring civililization. The game offers its players the possibillity to create a creature that looks like they want using a “creature creation tool”. They can automatically upload a clip of their creature to Youtube from the game to show off to other users.
Electronic Arts was recently put into difficult spot when more and more users started uploading their creatures to Youtube. Half the world is uploading creatures looking like…. Well, what would you create? In many cases I can already guess the answer: Titties, cocks, vaginas!
Last week, Electronic Arts announced they would remove any creatures looking like dicks, vaginas, etc from their internet databases. The question is if this is such a good move. Sex sells, but EA fears their game will be re-rated to adult status in the US. This would mean many large stores there won’t sell the game.
Personally, I think this is a mistake. They’re sitting on a huge publicity stunt without realizing it. Just type “Spore porn” at Youtube and look at the results! Spore porn is huge, and is drawing more and more buyers to the game all the time.
Besides, the tight ass US citizens that have problems with animated clips of creatures looking like they’re having crocodile-sex, are probably the same people that oppose the theory of evolution. So they won’t be buying the game anyway.
Spore may become a huge succes, if not for the decent reasons they may of thought up when they created it!
