About

Advertisements. They surround us every day, interrupt our favorite TV-shows, appear in games we like to play, show up along the road when we’re driving our cars and - for some of us - even haunt us in our dreams. Yet, we have no say in what we like to see, no way of letting the world know what we like or dislike, what annoys us, intrigues us or touches our hearts.

With the coming of age of the Internet that may have changed a bit. Sites like adsoftheworld.com (props to them) and YouTube catalog commercials and offer us a chance to comment on them. But there’s still no platform to filter ads that strike us in particular.

For this reason, in the summer of 2007 we - two advertising enthusiasts from the Netherlands - decided to start a weblog that does just this: Filter out ads, propaganda and other forms of advertising and sharing our thoughts on the matter: PRomOpinion.com. We hope to offer you a platform that saves you the trouble of doing this for yourself but are open to suggestions and welcome your comments. You can contact us at PRomOpinion@Gmail.com

When browsing PRomOpinion, please don’t be annoyed at any faults or mishaps in our language; English is not our native language and we might make an error every now and then. However, should you spot a recurring error that annoys you don’t hesitate to inform us, we’re willing to learn and are annoyed at people that don’t speak proper Dutch just as much.

We do not aim for a specific audience; every human being is a target to one advertisement or another and deals with this everyday, making us all experts. As a matter of fact we welcome people willing to contribute to PRomOpinion.com. If you feel you’ve got what it takes to help make this site even better by blogging your opinion every now and then feel free to send us a sample of your writing, and before you know it you’ll be a part of our team.

We aim to bring you an update everyday, so return regularly to catch the latest on the world of advertising. We hope you enjoy PRomOpinion!

Eyes of the beholders!

Robert:
A Dutch communication specialist. Worked for
several magazines, websites, made documentaries,
commercials and did many design jobs for customers
around the globe. On this blog I give a short and
subjective view (in my best English) about famous,
funny, controversial and experimentalpromotional
activities around the world.

Eye Benny

Benny:
Also of Dutch origin, I consider myself more of a
world citizen. I have background in information technology
and built various websites. Naturally I’m specifically
interested in the “global village” called internet. At
promopinion you can read how I turn an amused eye to
the new oppertunities this offers for advertisement and
the way companies are (mis)using them.

Floris

Floris: I’m a former Art Academy student. I’ve taught Art
at several elementary schools, Junior High Schools and
High Schools. Nowadays, I do marketing for several
companies and design company logos. You can call me
a freelancer.
Since I had the first perceptual psychology course at the
Art Academy it never left my mind. So in my approach
I’m always trying to see what other do or don’t see.
And above all I’m trying to see the irony of things.
